Arnfinn Haga

Arnfinn Haga (born 10 February 1936) is a Norwegian teacher and non-fiction writer, born at Stord. He made his literary début in 1974 with Det regner i fjellet. His authorship has focused on Norwegian resistance during the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany from 1940 to 1945. He was awarded the King's Medal of Merit in gold in 2003 for his literary works.

Mr. Haga's books, up to 2005, are listed in Wikipedia as follows.I suspect that they are available only in Norwegian. Some appear to be available through his current publisher Cappelen Damm, including audio versions of some of his books. Some are available on Goodreads. Others may be available at the Bjørnafjorden Bibliotek.

I am intrigued by the title of his 1974 book, It's Raining in the Mountains, a phrase used in the rescue of our crew 30 years earlier.

Mr. Haga's dedication to preserving the stories of the Norwegian Resistance is well-deserving of the awards that he has received.

Nødlanding - by Arnfinn Haga

This is an English translation of Nødlanding, written by Arnfinn Haga and published by Cappelen Damm publishers in Norway. The Norwegian version was copyrighted by CAPPELEN DAMM AS in 2010. However, the publisher's website indicates that a version was published as late as 2019.

In any event, there are two versions of the book available. The first prepared by Mr. Haga, the second translated into English with the assistance of Gary Firestone, one of Harvey's sons, and Harvey himself, through correspondence with Mr. Haga. [A]

The Norwegian version incorporated substantial material from an unpublished manuscript by E. Harvey Firestone initially entitled Destination Unknown, but later changed by Harvey to Six Sacks of Potatoes. This English translation incorporates additional material from Six Sacks of Potatoes, as well as additional information to make the story and the setting more understandable to people who are not familiar with Norway.

Like all good researches and historical writers, Mr, Haga identifies his sources; they are listed in his book and found here. One source that appears to be uniquely available to Mr. Haga is a telling of the story by Maurice Neil, a story that Mr. Haga identifies as "Nazi Capture Avoided".

English Translation of Nødlanding and Incorporation of Additional Material © by Gary Firestone, E. Harvey Firestone and Arnfinn Haga 2011

During the preparation of this version of Harvey Firestone's story, for publication on this website, some editing was done, and comments and additional information and photographs, were added by Douglas N. Deeth. The original footnotes of the authors (Gary and Harvey Firestone and Arnfinn Haga) appear in the sidebar, below the main page, as numerals in square brackets, eg [12]. Comments and notes of the editor, DN Deeth, appear as capital letters in square brackets, eg [B].
