The Organizers

Much of the organization for the celebrations was done by Mats Hjelle, son of Jakob Hjelle, who was the leader or the Mil.Org.-group at Os; Bjarne Øvredal, son of Haldor and Marta Øvredal, and Gaute Dyrdal, a former officer in the Norwegian Air Force.

Mats, Bjarne and Gaute enlisted the help of Os Turlag, Os Sogelag, the Os Commune and Samnanger Turlag to provide the planning and financial resources needed, and the volunteers required to organize and carry out what turned out to be a much bigger event than they had initially contemplated.

Os Turlag was formed in March 1987 and is a local hiking and trekking organization under the Bergen and Hordaland Turlag / The Norwegian Tourist Association. The purpose of the group is to arrange trips for fun and benefit for young and old, both inside and outside the Osbygda.

Similarly, Samnanger Turlag is a local hiking group under Bergen and Hordaland Turlag. Its goal is to get as many people out into the natural environment as possible.

The purpose of Os Sogelag is to awaken interest and understanding of local and cultural heritage and to help to collect, arrange and make available everything that can shed light on the living conditions of people in times gone by. The Sogelag  was established in 2016 and already counts over 130 members. The 75th Anniversary celebration was a high level of activity for Os Sogelag.
