Honouring the helpers

A dinner for the families of the helpers and the Canadian visitors was held on Saturday evening at the Oseana conference centre, located at the edge of the water in the port of Øs. Before dinner, Gaute Dyrdal and Mats Hjelle gave their presentation on the story of NB811, the crash-landing, and the rescue and delivery of six sacks of potatoes by the members of the local community, in many cases the parents of those who were attending the dinner. The full presentation by Gaute and Mats is here.

Following the presentation, we all went to the dining room, where the dinner was opened with welcoming speech from the Mayor of Øs, Mr. Terje Søviknes. The Mayor was followed over the course of the evening by Colonel Jeff Drummond, Lt. Col. Patrick Castonguay, and Captain (Navy) Svend Erik Kvalvaag.
